What to do on your way to the dentist
The actions that you take during your dental emergency can increase your likelihood of recovery and make it easier for your dentist to treat your problem.
If your dental emergency is a knocked out tooth, keep it moist. If the pain isn’t too severe, you can try placing it back into its socket without touching the root. Good alternatives including placing it between your cheek and gums or in a glass of milk. This moisture improves the odds that your dentist will be able to restore your tooth it is proper location.
If you crack your tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water to ensure the area is clean. This prevents bacteria from sneaking into the new crack and triggering infection. A cold compress can also be used to help minimize swelling until you reach your dentist’s office.
If you have a severe toothache, use ibuprofen to dull the pain. A warm or cold compress may help as well.
